🏈 SHOWDOWN IN STILLWATER
Written by Alyssa Riley
Coming off of a 70-point victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, the Razorbacks are preparing for what they are hoping is another sweeping victory. Tomorrow at 11 a.m., the Hogs will take on No. 17 Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The Cowboys won their first game 44-20 against South Dakota State. But there’s more to this upcoming game than meets the eye. The Razorbacks and Cowboys “have met on the gridiron 46 times throughout the years,” but not since 1980.
According to ESPN Analytics, 56% predict that OSU will win on Saturday, but the Razorbacks tend to surprise people. As season leaders, Arkansas running back Ja’Quinden Jackson and OSU’s Ollie Gordon II will go head-to-head in Stillwater. Jackson averaged 12.6 yards per rush attempt last week, running for 101 yards on eight carries in the first half. On the other hand, Gordon had an average of 4.5 yards per rush attempt, running 126 yards on 28 carries. Now, the question is, how will the two – plus quarterbacks Taylen Green and Alan Bowman (OSU) and wide receivers Tyrone Broden and Brennan Presley (OSU) – fare this week at Boone Pickens Stadium?
Let’s hope the Razorback’s second game resembles that of when they last met OSU on the 35-yard line, when, “Former Hog, Houston Dale Nutt (who was roundly booed as he came on to the field as one of the Oklahoma State captains), led the Cowboys to two late scores, but they came when the game was already over. The game ended with the final score, Arkansas 33 and Oklahoma State 20.”
