🔺 Know Your History. It feels like football season just started, and we’re already at the Battle of the Golden Boot. As game day quickly approaches, here are some fun facts regarding the history of the Arkansas-LSU gridiron rivalry.

  • This is the 69th overall meeting between Arkansas and LSU. Both teams have split the last two games with the road team victorious each time. The Razorbacks’ last two wins over the Bayou Bengals have been in Baton Rouge.

  • Five out of the last eight times Arkansas has won the Golden Boot, they were unranked against a ranked LSU team. The latest AP poll has LSU at No. 12.

  • Never before has the rivalry been played in the month of September. In fact, the last time they’ve met before the month of November was in 1936!

🔺 Be(a) Great. Arkansas midfielder Bea Franklin earned a spot on College Soccer News’ national team of the week and an honorable mention on TopDrawerSoccer’s national team of the week. Franklin had a hand in both of No. 11 Arkansas’ wins this week. On Friday in the SEC opener at Tennessee, Bea recorded her second career brace and scored the game-winner against Tennessee last Friday, and notched her first assist of the season on Sunday against Grand Canyon. It was her pass that led to Bella Field’s game-winner.

🔺 1-2 Combo. Felix Jones and Darren McFadden formed one of the greatest backfields in college football history, and while McFadden got all the Heisman hype, Jones still holds the Arkansas school record for career yards per rush. The Tulsa native was a First-Team All-American in 2007, and was part of some of the most memorable Razorback moments of the past quarter century. In this episode of the Hog Pod, Bo Mattingly and Jones talk what made those Razorback teams so great.

🔺 Beginning Unbeaten. The UTR Pro Tennis Tour 25k has been quite successful for Arkansas’ Katie Ferguson. The transfer from Cincinnati is 2-0 in her matches this week, winning in straight sets on Monday and coming back from an 0-1 deficit during her match on Tuesday. Not a bad way to start anew!

🔺 El Elevates. As one of several transfer players for Arkansas men’s basketball, El Ellis is looking to make an instant impact. The graduate senior from Louisville led the Cardinals in both points (17.7) and (4.4) per contest last year while averaging 36 minutes per game. Check in on how El is meshing with his new teammates at practice in this Mic’d Up featurette.
