Razorback Brew 8/31: Match night

Today, Razorback soccer goes for win No. 3 on the year.

Good morning. It was an exciting evening in Barnhill Arena last night, what say we do it again? Volleyball and soccer have matches later today as a jam-packed holiday weekend is just days away. Let’s have ourselves a Thursday, folks.

Now, what has all been mixed into today’s Brew?

🎥 Going on the defensive
🏐 Time for a rematch
🐗 And so much more!

🎥 ALL ACCESS FROM CAMP

Team Shiesty. Part two of The Follow’s inside look at Fall Camp gives you an exclusive inside look at the Arkansas defense. Hear from new defensive coordinator Travis Williams at practice, as well co-DC Marcus Woodson, Chris "Pooh" Paul, and Cameron Ball. See how the defense bonded over the summer as they head to Wild World of Paintball. Then, go inside a defensive line meeting room with coach Deke Adams and his much-talked-about unit.

🔺 Expanding Horizons. Arkansas soccer is back on the pitch tonight with a home match against Milwaukee, the reigning champion of the Horizon League. The eighth-ranked Hogs are 2-0-1 on the young season while averaging four goals per match so far. Here are some numbers that stand out from the Razorbacks’ first three matches:

  • Arkansas has been especially dominant in the first half of their first three games, outscoring opponents 9-1 in the first 45 minutes.

  • Morgan White is off to a great start in her first year at Arkansas. She leads the team in goals (3), shots on goal (5) and points (9).

  • Morgan and Sophia Aragon are the lone Razorbacks who have scored at least two goals thus far. They’re responsible for five of the team’s 12 goals.

First kick tonight is at 6:30pm on SEC Network Plus.

🔺 The Easy Choice. By the end of her senior campaign at Iowa, Nia Carter ranked first in the Big Ten in hits (101), batting average (.479) and on-base percentage (.527). She became only the second player in conference history to have at least 100 hits in a single season and earned SA Third-Team All-America honors as a result, and she’ll now look to make her mark in the SEC with Arkansas softball. Learn why Nia’s choice to play for Arkansas was a no-brainer in this feature piece from Softball America.

🔺 Barn Burner. No. 21 Arkansas volleyball’s first of two matches vs. No. 1 Wisconsin couldn’t have been any closer as the Razorbacks took the Badgers to the very end of five sets in a narrow defeat, but it was a career night for junior Sania Petties. The Houston native posted a career high 14 kills with four blocks and a hit percentage of .40o. Arkansas and Wisconsin meet once more in Barnhill Arena tonight at 7pm on ESPNU.

🔺 Back On The Corner. We’re now just two days away days from the start of the 2023 Arkansas football season. No. 2 Dwight McGlothern is set to enter his second season as the top cornerback for the Hog defense. In 13 starts last year, he posted career highs in tackles (52), interceptions (4), forced fumbles (2), fumbles recovered (1) and passes defended (10) and earned Second-Team All-SEC honors from the league’s coaches.

🔺 Immediately On Notice. Arkansas starting tight end Luke Hasz was one of 37 players named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday. Luke was the only tight end to make the watch list for the award that is annually given to the most outstanding freshman player in college football.
