Razorback Brew 8/28: Game week

Today, we're just five sunrises away from Arkansas football.

Good morning. You did it. You made it through the last week without Arkansas football for a while. The final countdown to kickoff begins on this beautiful Monday morning in Fayetteville.

Doing It All: Arkansas’ offense goes five-deep at running back, and there is nothing that group can’t do under Jimmy Smith’s coaching. Read why the Hogs’ backfield should have you amped in Clay Henry’s latest for HogsPlus.com.

Now, what has all been mixed into today’s Brew?

🎙️ HOG POD: SAM PITTMAN

Four years later, Sam Pittman is ever grateful to be leading Arkansas football. Coach Pittman has done plenty in just three years on the job, but the proudest he’s been as the Razorbacks’ Head Hog is winning the most recent game he’s coached, overcoming adversity to claim a second-straight bowl victory.

In this episode of the Hog Pod, Sam Pittman joins Bo Mattingly to talk about leadership and what he's learned on the job.

👀 COMING SOON…

PREMIERING ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, The Hogs+ original film "Resurgence" chronicles the culture-changing run of the 1998 Arkansas football team under new head coach Houston Nutt, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the greatest opening season of any Razorback coach to date.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Weekend Winners. 25th-ranked Arkansas volleyball went 2-0 in the Razorback Classic in sweeping both Michigan State on Friday, and Tulsa on Sunday. Friday’s match ended up being the highest-attended home opener in program history inside Barnhill Arena as the Volley Hogs kept the Spartans under 20 points a set. On Sunday, they did the same against the Golden Hurricane to cap off a perfectly clean opening weekend.

Up next is a double contest against Wisconsin. Both matches will start at 7pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

🔺 Pair Of Fives. We’re now just five days away days from the start of the 2023 Arkansas football season. The No. 5 Razorback jersey has some storied history behind it, and two phenomenal players in running back Rocket Sanders and defensive tackle Cameron Ball rep it for the 2023 squad. Rocket is coming off an extraordinary sophomore campaign in which he ran for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns. Cam showed immense promise as a redshirt freshman in 2022, logging 341 snaps along the defensive line and recording 15 run stops.

🔺 Thrice The Honor. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson has done something that hasn’t been accomplished in over a century. KJ became the second-ever Arkansas player to be named a team captain three times. The first was none other than Herbert Fishback, who was captain from 1895-97. Yes, that is the 19th century we’re talking about. Salute to you, Herbert Fishback.

🔺 Marvelous Medals. The final day of the World Athletics Championships have wrapped up, and Arkansas athletes ended up with a total of eight medals throughout the week. Three medals came from Sunday alone as Nickisha Pryce earned silver with the Jamaican 4 x 400m relay, Amber Anning collected bronze with the British 4x 400m relay (3:21.04), and Chris Bailey will receive a gold as a member of the United States men’s 4 x 400m relay that won the final in a world-leading 2:57.31.

🔺 Nothing But Net. It’s very early, but graduate transfer Morgan White has scored more goals (3) than the number of matches she’s played for Arkansas this season (2). The Cincinnati, OH native scored her third goal of the season after fighting for possession in the penalty box during 10th-ranked Arkansas’ road match at Notre Dame. The Hogs tied the Fighting Irish 2-2.

Up next is a home match against reigning Horizon League champions Milwaukee (2-0-2). Kickoff is set for 6:30pm on Thursday and will be broadcasted on SEC Network Plus.
