Razorback Brew 8/23: Hurdling heroes
Today, we get exclusive insight on Arkansas' defense from Travis Williams.
Good morning. Our hearts are heavy with the passing of former Razorback basketball player Reggie Chaney. We are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.
🏕️ CAMP’N OUT
“I am because we are.” Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams is building a tight-knit group on that side of the ball, and it’s showing on the practice field.
In the latest episode of Camp’n Out, Tera Talmadge gets the latest news and insight on the Razorback defense from Coach Williams at Fall Camp. Plus, you’ll see exclusive footage of the defense playing paintball against one another, and linebacker Chris "Pooh" Paul Jr. also joins the program to discuss his observations and personal growth from practice.

🔺 Star-Studded. Six pivotal members of the Razorback football team earned 2023 Preseason Coaches All-SEC honors this week. Dwight McGlothern and Rocket Sanders were first-team honorees, KJ Jefferson, Brady Latham and Beaux Limmer were tabbed to the second team offense, and Cam Little was placed on the third team. Check out the full All-SEC teams here.
🔺 Unfinished Business. As KJ Jefferson enters his senior season at Arkansas and third year as the starting quarterback, he’s within striking distance of Matt Jones’ school record for total offense. But it’s not just the records. KJ has grown into a major leadership role with the team. In this episode of the Hog Pod with Bo Mattingly, we chat with QB1 about how he got to where he is today, why he decided to come back for more, and what he has planned for his senior season.
🔺 Tank Commander. We’re now just 10 days from the start of the 2023 Arkansas football season. The Arkansas defensive line was bolstered when Anthony “Tank” Booker Jr. transferred in from Maryland, and that nickname very much fits how he plays. In his first-ever start last year against Wisconsin, Anthony posted a career high five defensive stops and followed that with four the next week against Penn State. Read why Arkansas’ d-line looks NFL-ready in the eyes of Hogs+ senior contributor Clay Henry.
🔺 Party In The Barn. Barnhill Arena is set to host another exciting season of Arkansas volleyball. With the season-opening match vs. Michigan State just two days away, click here to get caught up on what is new at Barnhill for 2023.
🔺 Hurdling Heroes. Whether it’s over 400 meters or 100 meters, no set of hurdles are getting in the way of any Razorbacks at the World Athletics Championships.
Arkansas volunteer assistant Shamier Little posted the fastest time among the 400m hurdle semifinal field with a time of 52.81 seconds, the second fastest semifinal time in the history of the Championships.
Razorback Ackera Nugent, representing Jamaica, won the initial prelim heat of the 100m hurdles in 12.60 seconds, and Cindy Sember, who trains with Arkansas women’s head coach Chris Johnson, finished fourth in the third prelim heat with a season best time of 12.83. They’ll both run in today’s semifinal.
