📝 CLAY HENRY’S LATEST

Clay Henry knew Ryan Mallett better than most, even long after his days of slingin’ touchdown passes in Razorback Stadium. Read Clay’s memories of Ryan, from his famous bear hugs, hanging out at Steel Wings, and coaching at Mountain Home in his latest edition of From the Top of the Hill.

🔺 41 years in the making. History was made at the hands of Ayden Owens-Delerme yesterday as the Razorback won the second ever decathlon gold medal for Puerto Rico during the Central American and Caribbean Games, winning the event with a meet record 8,281 points while teammate Yariel Soto Torrado earned a bronze medal with 7,762 points.

Ayden broke the meet record of 8,118 set in 1982 by Cuba’s Rual Duan, and the gold and bronze finish by the Arkansas pair produced the best Puerto Rican finish in the CAC Games decathlon since 2010 when Steven Marrero and Marcos Sanchez finished second and third.

🔺 Late Riser. Arkansas women’s golfer Miriam Ayora finished tied for third at the Campeonato de España Amateur V Memorial Emma Villacieros earlier this week. Miriam, a senior for the Razorbacks, shot a 69 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 4-under-par. She finished the tournament with 14 birdies and one eagle from the second round.

🔺 From Way Downtown. We’re now just inside 60 days from the start of Arkansas’ football season. There have been three 60+ yard field goals made by Razorback place kickers in the team’s history, and they all occurred in the 1970s. Bill McClard was the first in 1970 as he booted in a 60-yarder before Steve Little followed suit in 1976 with a 61-yarder. Little shattered that record a year later with a 67-yarder, which remains the longest made field goal in Razorback and NCAA history.

🔺 First Look. Two former Razorbacks got their first crack at NBA Summer League action this week. Ricky Council IV, who signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers after the draft concluded, had 11 points and six rebounds in his debut to go with a signature tomahawk dunk Hogs fans are so familiar with, while Nick Smith Jr. put up 12 points in his first exhibition for the Charlotte Hornets.
