Razorback Brew 7/27: Boiler alert

Today, Arkansas men's basketball will face a top team this Fall.

Good morning. News keeps rolling in through the heat. A very special basketball game has been announced for the Hogs this Fall, and a new assistant coach has entered the picture for the men’s golf team. All of that and more is in store to start your Thursday morning.

Now, what else did we mix into today’s Brew?

📝 Offensive attention
🏀 Balling for relief
🐗 And so much more!

🏈 HOGS+ FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Central strength. Arkansas’ offense is strongly built from the inside out. A stout interior offensive line blocking for one of the best quarterback-running back duos in the country is just one aspect that excites new offensive coordinator Dan Enos about his first year back in Fayetteville.

Clay Henry continues his preview of the 2023 Arkansas football team with a breakdown of the offensive line, featuring exclusive insight from Enos.

🏀 VEGAS BABY!

Sweet return. In the words of Arkansas play-by-play announcer Chuck Barrett, "Vegas, Baby!" The Hogs took down one seeded Kansas in historic fashion to clinch back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances. Relive all the action of game day through the eyes of its star, Devo Davis. Go inside the locker room, in the huddles, and experience the game as Mr. March himself sits down for an interview. It's all here in this sweet edition of The Follow.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Boiler Alert. For the second straight year, the Arkansas men’s basketball program will play in a preseason charity exhibition game against another top team in the nation. Arkansas will host Purdue on Saturday, October 28 at Bud Walton Arena.

The game will not be part of the 2023-24 men’s basketball season ticket package and proceeds from the game will go to the United Way to assist with relief efforts from the tornados that affected Arkansas this past spring.

Broadcast information and complete ticket information, including when tickets will go on sale, will be announced at a later time. Tipoff is set for 3 pm.

🔺 Nice Jersey, Friend. We’re now just 37 days from the start of Arkansas’ football season. Devin Bale and Devoncy Maloy not only are both wearing the No. 37 jersey this year for the Razorbacks, they’re both new to the team this year. Devin is a junior punter who spent the last two years at Northern Colorado, and Devoncy earned a roster spot through an open tryout this Spring.

🔺 King Of The Jungle. The Lion King’s underlying theme is what inspired Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr.’s first tattoos, and he didn’t stop there. On average, he plans his newest ink about a month in advance, ensuring the design and placement are all right. Hear more about Chris’ tattoos in episode 3 of Behind the Ink!

🔺 Batting A’s. The Razorback baseball team has received the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association for the third consecutive year. Arkansas was one of 130 NCAA Division I programs recognized by the ABCA on Wednesday. To be honored, teams must have had a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2022-23 academic year.

🔺 Swing Advisor. Gustavo Morantes was named Arkansas men’s golf associate head coach on Wednesday. Morantes spent this past season with the Houston Cougars prior to working three seasons at his alma mater, New Mexico, as an assistant coach (2019-22). In his four seasons as a collegiate coach, his teams made three NCAA postseason appearances. He had an award-winning playing career with the Lobos and still represents his native Venezuela in international amateur competitions.
