Razorback Brew 7/24: Rocket's liftoff

Today, Arkansas is well represented on the preseason All-SEC teams.

Good morning. The last full week of July means football is right around the corner. Fall camp is set to begin soon, and what better way to prepare than with Clay Henry’s 2023 Football Preview for Hogs+?

Spoiler alert: There is no better way.

We’ve got the first feature for you to dive in to, and a lot more from the weekend.

Now, what else did we mix into today’s Brew?

Expect chaos. That’s the message when speaking on a defense coordinated by Travis Williams, and the result of what he learned quickly from some of his mentors on his journey to becoming Arkansas’ new DC.

Williams went through the three-deep depth chart with Clay Henry in the first part of the Hogs+ 2023 Football Preview.

🎙️ FROM THE VAULT: CLINT STOERNER

Clint Stoerner’s story covers more than just one play. It entails a coming of age decision between football and baseball, a college choice between LSU and Arkansas. His road didn’t end in that 1998 game vs. Tennessee, it was only just the beginning.

Go into the vault with us and hear Stoerner’s football journey from player to coach in this past edition of the Hog Pod.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Party Like It’s 2012. Four Razorback football players earned preseason All-SEC honors over the weekend, led by first-team selection Raheim Sanders, who’s Arkansas’ first running back to earn first-team All-SEC recognition since Knile Davis in 2012.

In addition to Sanders, quarterback KJ Jefferson, offensive lineman Brady Latham, and defensive back Dwight McGlothern picked up preseason second-team All-SEC honors. KJ is the first Arkansas QB to earn preseason All-SEC honors since Tyler Wilson, also in 2012.

🔺 40 Time. We’re now just 40 days from the start of Arkansas’ football season, and you can expect to see a lot of Landon Jackson wreaking havoc in the No. 40 jersey this season. Landon tallied 23 total tackles with three sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble in his first year with the Razorbacks last season. His three sacks ranked fifth on the team and ranks third among returning players. Go behind the scenes with Landon and his teammates at SEC Media Days, only on HogsPlus.com.

🔺 5,280 Feet To Glory. The American record for the fastest mile time now belongs to a former Razorback. Arkansas alum Nikki Hiltz finished sixth in the event at the Monaco Diamond League and broke the 38-year old record with a time of 4 minutes, 16.35 seconds. The previous record of 4:16.71 was set in 1985 by Mary Slaney.

🔺 Reload The Track. A mixture of talent will join the Razorback roster for the 2023-24 season from five additions to the program. The group includes prep sprinter Kaylyn Brown along with four transfers in high jumper Rachel Glenn, hurdler Destiny Huven, Jamaican jumper Nia Robinson, and heptathlete Sara Van Aken. Learn more about the newest Razorbacks here!

🔺 Add It To The List. Competing in his first Diamond League triple jump, Razorback Jaydon Hibbert finished second after leading the competition from round four with a mark of 57 feet, 11.25 inches (17.66), which was less than a foot away from the winning mark. Jaydon’s mark in Monaco now gives him three of the five best performances on the collegiate all-dates list.
