🔺 Head Honcho Hog. The incomparable Dave Van Horn has been named the SEC Coach of the Year for the third time in his 21-year run as the Diamond Hogs’ manager following the Razorbacks’ second regular season SEC title in three seasons. This is also his second SEC CotY since 2021, and he now becomes one of three active coaches in the league to be awarded the honor at least three times. Watch the moment DVH learned of the news after practice here.

🔺 League Leaders. The coach wasn’t the only one to receive good news on Monday. Four of his players were named to All-SEC teams by the rest of the league’s head coaches. Hagen Smith is a first-team selection at starting pitcher and All-Defensive honors, Kendall Diggs earned second-team honors at designated hitter, and pitcher Gage Wood and outfielder Tavian Josenberger were named Freshman All-SEC and All-Defensive praise, respectively.

🔺 Man On The Mound. It was quite a day for Hagen Smith, specifically, as the sophomore was also named a semifinalist for the 2023 Golden Spikes Award. Smith is one of 25 semifinalists for the award given to the top amateur baseball player in the nation. Despite changing from starter to “wild card” to starter again this year, Hagen has been a pinnacle of consistency on the mound, striking out 93 batters and sporting a 2.56 ERA, both are team-bests thus far. He becomes the eighth Razorback since 2007 to be named a semifinalist for the award.

🔺 Who comes to mind when you think of the word “clutch”? Maybe it’s Michael Jordan. Tom Brady. Or Tiger Woods.

Razorback baseball’s version of clutch? That’d be Kendall Diggs.

A sophomore from Overland Park, Kansas—an area which has produced some of the best Razorback baseball players in recent memory—Kendall has a knack for coming through when it matters most, with four game-winning hits and counting in his young career. Getting to that point takes a lot of hard work. Thankfully, for Diggs and every other Razorback, the coaching staff is up to the task. Learn more about Arkansas’ big-time bat in the latest edition of the Hog Pod.

🔺 Setting It Up. The Volley Hogs return to the court in August with 30 regular season matches now set in their official schedule for the 2023 season. Arkansas will face 12 different schools from nine different conferences, 18 in SEC action, and nine teams that made appearances in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Fifteen matches will be in Barnhill Arena, which includes two home tournaments to kick off the season. Check out the full schedule here.
