Razorback Brew 5/19: Lawyer up
Today, Arkansas softball hosts the Fayetteville Regional.
Good morning. It’s time to get things started in Bogle Park. The Fayetteville Regional begins this afternoon with Arkansas softball hosting their first opponent of the NCAA Tournament. Go behind-the-scenes with Courtney Deifel and the team as they discover their fate on selection Sunday, and see what it takes to get ready for a deep postseason run.
Now, what’s all been mixed into today’s Brew?
🎥 Brick by Brick
⚾️ Hogs take one step closer to SEC title
🐗 And so much more!
🎥 MEET “BRIKI-ANNA”
You gotta give props to the Razorbacks. Because they sure know how to start a rally from the dugout.
The Arkansas softball team has a new member. Her name is, Briki-anna. Some of the Razorbacks created her out of a brick they found in the dugout and now the team believes she is good luck.
Brikk-iana is just the latest addition to Arkansas' many "rally props". Hear from several of the girls about why they believe these props work, plus watch them get creative and make a few for our cameras.
📈 STOCK UP
🔺 Roaring 20s. No. 2 Arkansas notched its 20th conference victory of the year last night and took another step towards the regular-season SEC title by defeating Vanderbilt 8-2.
Vandy never stood a chance after the Hogs put up four runs in the first inning. Two of those runs came from the bat of Brady Slavens, who crushed his ninth home run of the season. Six different Razorbacks crossed home plate on the night, and Will McEntire made sure no Commodore did the same in his four innings of relief work. The redshirt junior allowed just one hit and struck out six.
With the win, the Razorbacks reached 20 victories in SEC play in a single season for just the fourth time in the program’s 32-year history competing in the conference. Arkansas can secure at least a share of the title tonight with another win against the Commodores, or if Florida loses at Kentucky.
First pitch is at 7pm on SEC Network.
🔺 Entry Frenzy. Never before has a men’s track and field program had more entires into the NCAA Outdoor Championships than the Razorbacks have this year. No. 1 Arkansas has qualified a national-leading and record 44 entries into next week’s championships from 34 athletes contesting 16 events. 44 entries is the most ever since the 2010 format change, besting the previous record of 42 set by Oregon in 2015. The fifth-ranked women’s squad also leads the nation in entires with 34 total pertaining to 29 athletes.
🔺 Nothing New For Drew. He’s only been in the NFL for about three weeks, but former Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders is already making an impression. His new teammate, wide receiver and fellow rookie Marvin Mims, is discovering what we already know about the former Razorback. Mims called Sanders “an unreal athlete” during their first practice sessions with the Broncos. Read more on Sanders’ past experiences playing against Mims here.
🔺 Sinister Six. Leading up to their NCAA Regional weekend, Six Arkansas softball players were selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-South Region teams. Chenise Delce, Cylie Halvorson, Reagan Johnson, and Rylin Hedgecock were named to the All-South Region First Team. Raigan Kramer was tabbed to the second team and Lauren Camenzind was selected to the third team.
🔺 Lawyer Up. The 11th-seeded Razorback softball team begins its NCAA Tournament march tonight as the hosts of the Fayetteville Regional. Arkansas will take the field against Harvard this evening following Oregon vs. Notre Dame in the afternoon.
This is the fourth regional the Hogs have ever hosted at Bogle Park, coming off an impressive 38-17 regular season record (Fetty Wap would be so proud). Arkansas and Harvard have met just once in their history back in 2014. The Razorbacks defeated the Crimson 9-4 that year.
First pitch tonight is at 6:30pm and can be watched on ESPN Plus.
