Razorback Brew 5/15: You complete me

Today, our hats are off for Hunter Hollan.

Good morning. And a happy belated Mother’s Day to all the Razorback moms out there. You’re the real MVPs.

This week got off to a good start with Arkansas softball earning the No. 11 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament last night. The Hogs will begin their run towards a national title this weekend at Bogle Park, but not before men’s golf and baseball take care of business during the week. Check out the team’s reaction to their tournament seeding, and Head Coach Courtney Deifel’s message to her players about the week ahead.

Now, what’s all been mixed into today’s Brew?

🦝 RACCOON WRANGLER REWIND

A legend walks among us. As a kid, Grant Harmon was always comfortable in nature. Hunting and fishing were a way of life. But never did he think that lifestyle would help him in the stands of Baum-Walker Stadium on a random Spring evening while watching the Diamond Hogs play ball.

Enjoy some Razorback Folklore and learn the true story behind the Raccoon Wrangler and the events of May 13, 2022. Be sure to enjoy plenty more select feature Hogs+ pieces FOR FREE this week!

🎙️ HOG POD: CAMENZIND TWINS

Better together. Hannah and Lauren Camenzind are, in many ways, a package deal. Tennessee learned that the hard way a few weeks back when they both shined against the Vols during a crucial series win.

How did the twins go from struggling in softball to playing under the bright lights at Arkansas? Find out in the latest episode of the Hog Pod with Bo Mattingly.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Update The Banner. The 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships belonged to Arkansas, as the No. 1 men’s team and No. 3 women’s team in the country captured each title this weekend in Baton Rouge. This is the third consecutive conference title and 30th overall for Chris Bucknam’s squad, while Lance Harter secured his 45th total championship as his retirement nears.

  • Jaydon Hibbert broke the outdoor collegiate record in the triple jump with a leap of 58 feet, 7.5 inches in his latest victory. He becomes the first Razorback to win the event at the SEC Championships since 2016.

  • Rojé Stona, on the other hand, became the very first Razorback to claim victory in the discus with an amazing 225-2 (68.64) which even topped his previous personal best.

  • Ayden Owens-Delerme clocked 48.26 seconds in winning the 400m hurdles in just his third race at the event as a collegian. Owens-Delerme broke the SEC meet record of 48.29 that stood since 2005.

It was also another historic outing for Britton Wilson, who repeated an unprecedented double victory in the 400m and 400m hurdles on the final day of the meet and lowered her collegiate record in the 400m to 49.13, becoming the fourth fastest American ever. That performance moves her to No. 4 on the US all-time list, ahead of a 49.26 for Allyson Felix, and 17th on the all-time world list.

🔺 Running Through The 6. With the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, Arkansas softball enters the field with six players having earned All-SEC honors. Ace pitcher Chenise Delce was named First Team All-SEC for the second consecutive year, while Kristina Foreman, Rylin Hedgecock, Cylie Halvorson, Hannah Camenzind, Reagan Johnson were all recognized as second-team honorees. Hannah and Reagan are the first Razorback freshmen to claim all-conference honors since 2018 when Mary Haff was Second Team All-SEC.

🔺 Palmetto State Party. Today begins the the NCAA Men’s Golf Salem Regional at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, SC. The 35th-ranked Arkansas men’s golf program will be the #6 seed at for the next few days, competing against a stacked field that features the No. 2 program in North Carolina, and two other schools ranked in the top 15. Check out the full field and track live results here.

🔺 You Complete Me. Nine innings, 10 strikeouts, one win. That’s quite the box score for Hunter Hollan, who became the first Arkansas pitcher to toss a complete game against an SEC team since 2016. Hollan’s 113-pitch tale of endurance combined with Friday night’s victory gave the Razorbacks the series win against No. 6 South Carolina, their seventh SEC series victory of the season. Arkansas is now 38-13 on the year, with 30 of those wins coming at Baum-Walker.

🎧 RAZORBACK DAILY

Home is where the heart is.
