Razorback Brew 5/11: Play ball

Today, we're getting things started at the SEC Tournament.

Good morning. It may not be the weekend just yet, but it certainly feels like it with what’s on tap. The SEC Tournament is well underway at Bogle Park and the Hogs are up to bat later this evening, while track and field is down in Baton Rouge to take home more hardware.

Now, what’s all been mixed into today’s Brew?

🫖 THAT’S THE TEA

Double-A action. The SEC Outdoor Championships are on the minds of Arkansas track athletes Amber Anning and Ackera Nugent, but their pasts are just as exciting. Both grew up abroad and attended other universities before making their way to The Hill. But since arriving in Fayetteville, the two have had a big impact on the track program, setting records and winning titles. Hear what Tea they spill in this week’s conversation with Tera Talmadge and Taliyah Brooks.

⚾️ HITTER’S UPDATE

Hogs+ senior contributor Clay Henry sits down with Arkansas hitting coach Nate Thompson to discuss Jared Wegner & Tavian Josenberger, as well as his overall thoughts on where the team is right now heading into two big series to close out the regular season.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Play Ball. For just the second time ever, Arkansas softball is playing an SEC Tournament game at Bogle Park. And just like the first time all the way back in 2010, it will be against Alabama. The Razorbacks will face the Crimson Tide for the fourth time this season as they took a series from them down in Tuscaloosa back in March.

The defending SEC Tournament champions will take the field in front of a home crowd this afternoon at 7pm, with SEC Network broadcasting the game.

🔺 Repeat And Revenge. Arkansas track and field has the No. 1 men’s team and No. 3 women’s team in the country this week in Baton Rouge for the SEC Outdoor Championships. The fellas are looking for their third consecutive Outdoor title, while the ladies are out for revenge a year after Florida ended their 10-year title streak. Arkansas has a total of six athletes looking to repeat as event champions.

Get caught up on the men’s and women’s entries for this weekend’s action down in Louisiana.

🔺 Breaking 70. A pair of 3-under-par 69s from Kajal Mistry and Reagan Zibilski gave Arkansas women’s golf the second-best team score (286) on the final day of the Palm Beach Gardens NCAA Regional. Kajal and Reagan tied with three other golfers for Wednesday’s lowest round, and the former finished in fifth place out of over 60 competitors on the individual leaderboard. The Razorbacks fell one stroke short of advancing to the NCAA Championship.

🔺 High Speed Studies. Ahead of today’s Outdoor Championships, Razorback senior Ayden Owens-Delerme has been named Co-SEC Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year, sharing the honor with last year’s recipient Matthew Boling of Georgia. Ayden has worked on finishing his MBA in the classroom, and becomes the eighth Razorback to claim the award since its inaugural presentation all the way back in 2004.
