📝 FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

Paying to row. Arkansas men’s track and field coach Chris Bucknam keeps his priorities straight, and sometimes that comes with sacrifice. Ultimately, it’s his ability to decipher what’s important that has made the program an all-around beacon of success. Sit down with Bucknam and Clay Henry for a discussion on all things track and field as the SEC Outdoor Championships are just a day away.

🔺 May Refresher. We’re just a day away from Arkansas softball beginning SEC Tournament play on their home field for the first time in 13 years. Now that the regular season is in the books, let’s take a look at some of the Razorbacks who have shined the most this year.

  • Reagan Johnson, Rylin Hedgecock, Cylie Halvorson, Raigan Kramer, and Hannah Gammill played and started in all 54 regular season games this year. Hannah didn’t miss a single game during the entire 2022 season as well.

  • As a freshman, Reagan has handled leadoff duties splendidly for the Razorbacks. She led the team in at bats (191) and batting average (.377), and stolen bases (17) for all starters. Her 17 steals make up 71% of Arkansas’ total on the year.

  • Rylin has always brought the power this year, finishing tops in home runs (20), and slugging percentage (.775) as well as hits (48) and RBI (58) for the Hogs. She also ranks second in both home runs and RBI out of all SEC hitters.

  • Arkansas’ pitching staff has an ERA of just 2.18 and has held opposing batters to a .202 average. Chenise Delce leads the team in ERA (1.82) while Robyn Herron’s .169 batting average allowed is second to none.

🔺 Promoting Her Passion. Lest we forget another important softball shoutout to Ally Sockey, who was named to the SEC Softball Community Service Team this week. An education major at Arkansas, Ally is enthusiastic about giving back to the community as she participates in several community service events both on and off the field, including her work assisting assisting children with special needs with Miracle League of Arkansas.

🔺 Striking Distance. Arkansas’ Kajal Mistry jumped four spots on the individual leaderboard at the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional after posting a 1-over 73 Tuesday morning. Kajal leads the field in birdies made (9) and is tied with teammate Julia Gregg for 12th after two rounds, while the Razorbacks stand in seventh place with one round to go. Arkansas is just five strokes behind the cutline to make the NCAA Championship.

🔺 New Spirit In Town. Tony Morris has been named the new Director of Spirit Programs and Community Outreach at the University of Arkansas. Morris joins the Razorbacks after nearly four years at James Madison, where he served as the Dukes’ Spirit Coordinator and head cheerleading coach. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Fayetteville having coached at multiple levels, including sideline and all-star, while improving the gameday atmosphere and fan experiences at numerous stops in his career. Learn more about his resume here.

🔺 Serving Knowledge. Six members of Razorback Tennis were named to their respective 2023 Academic All-District Tennis Teams. Foster Rogers, Adrien Burdet, Kacie Harvey, Kelly Keller, Lenka Stara and Morgan Crosswere were all selected by the College Sports Communicators on this week, in recognition of their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The average GPA of all six players is a whopping 3.805!
