Razorback Brew 3/6: Finish in the Palace

It's Senior Night for Arkansas men's basketball.

Good Morning. Spring is rapidly approaching, which means the weather can act up sometimes. It also means football practice is starting back up! Check out Head Hog Sam Pittman’s preview of spring practice.

Here’s what we have for in today’s Brew:

🎥 Face-to-Face with an All-SEC Freshman
⚾️ Hogs outscore Bears in Baum-Walker
🐗 And so much more!

🏀 FRESHMAN PHENOM

Keeping Tradition. For the third consecutive year, the Arkansas women’s basketball program is represented on the SEC All-Freshman Team with Taliah Scott tabbed to the 2024 squad. Before bursting onto the scene for the Razorbacks and being named SEC Freshman of the Week five times, Taliah grew up with a D1 basketball player for a father and learned confidence from Steph Curry himself. Hear her story in this episode of the Hog Pod.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Pinstripe Power. Powered by Wehiwa Aloy’s grand slam and Ben McLaughlin’s three-run homer, the second-ranked Arkansas baseball club used a seven-run third inning to blast its way past UCA, 9-7, on Tuesday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Arkansas got a few clutch appearances on the mound late in the afternoon. Gabe Gaeckle worked the final two innings of the ballgame, allowing a run but locking down his second save of the season. Gage Wood struck out one in his shutout frame of relief, while Stone Hewlett racked up four strikeouts in his scoreless inning of work.

The Razorbacks, who were donning their pinstripe uniforms for the first this season, improved to 17-2 against in-state opponents, including a perfect 5-0 record against UCA since 1960.

🔺 Putting Optional. Thanks to an eagle from the fairway on the 18th hole, Jacob Skov Olesen of the Arkansas men’s golf team finished fourth at the Cabo Collegiate at 7-under. Jacob was 2-over through 17 holes Tuesday, and a hole-out from 110 yards with a sand wedge got him down to an even-par 71 on the day. He played the par-4s at -4 over the three days, which tied for second-best in the field. By tying for fourth, Jacob has finished among the top 5 in two events this year, four times in his career, and he now leads the team with eight rounds in the 60s this season.

🔺 Pair of Crowns. The national ratings heading into the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships this week have Arkansas men’s and women’s programs both No. 1 with the ratings based on entries for the national championship meet. Both the Razorback men and women will look to defend their crowns starting Friday at the New Balance facility in Boston.

🔺 Veteran Sendoffs. Tonight is the penultimate regular season matchup for Arkansas men’s basketball this year, and the final home game of the year. Arkansas will host LSU at 6pm, and senior players such as Devo Davis will be recognized following the contest.

The Hogs have won four of the last six overall meetings against the Tigers, and sport a 23-8 record in the series at home.
