Razorback Brew 2/6: Space for the ace

Today, we'll get to know everything about Arkansas' upcoming baseball season.

Good Morning. Moving day was big for the Arkansas women’s golf team down in Puerto Rico. We’ll catch you up to speed on the latest scores, plus a look into what’s in store for Razorback baseball, and the return of a key Razorback hooper.

Now, what else is in store for today’s Brew?

🎥 Welcoming Andreas Paaske to The Hill
🏃‍♀️ Queens for another week
🐗 And so much more!

🏈 MEET ANDREAS PASSKE

Andreas Paaske isn’t your ordinary transfer player. The tight end didn’t start playing football until he was 18 years old, and hails from a different continent altogether! Andreas played soccer for 15 years in Denmark, and spent the last few seasons at Eastern Michigan developing his craft on the gridiron. It’s all led to his arrival in Fayetteville.

This episode of “In Studio with Tera” features Tera Talmadge getting to know new Arkansas tight end and Eastern Michigan transfer, Andreas Paaske. He'll explain what it was like growing up in Denmark, and why he wanted to be a Razorback.

⚾️ SEASON PREVIEW

Arkansas head baseball coach Dave Van Horn speaks to the Swatter's Club for the first time this year to give his thoughts on the squad heading into the start of the season. Hear updates on the biggest stars like Hagen Smith, Brady Tygart, and Peyton Stovall. Plus, a sneak peek at next year's schedule that you don't want to miss.

🏀 ERIC MUSSELMAN LIVE

Eric Musselman returns to Sassy's to announce Devo Davis' return to the team and explain how they are using this week to prepare for the second half of conference play. Plus, Tramon Mark also stops by.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Space For The Ace. Arkansas starting pitcher Hagen Smith has been named a preseason first-team All-American by Baseball America, and is the first Razorback to earn first-team recognition from the outlet since Matt Cronin back in 2019. Baseball America annually polls major league scouting directors to vote for its preseason All-America teams, asking only that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential.

Hagen enters the 2024 campaign as a preseason first-team All-American by Baseball America, D1Baseball and Perfect Game. Both D1Baseball and Perfect Game have also tabbed the Razorbacks’ ace as the SEC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

🔺 Makin’ Moves. The third-ranked Razorback women’s golf team bounced back in a big way Monday morning, climbing the leaderboard and now sitting in fourth place at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic. Arkansas finished round two with a 3-under 285, the lowest total of the day, with all four counted scores at par or under. Kendall Todd, who was the low-scoring Razorback on Sunday, continued her impressive play with a 2–under par. Kendall is now tied for eighth place on the individual leaderboard.

🔺 Sounds Of Bogle. Arkansas softball begins its season in two days time, but the first game at Bogle Park won’t be for another few weeks. That’s plenty of time to create a playlist of all the walkup songs chosen by this year’s roster. Check out every track here.

🔺 Queens Keep The Crown. While four other SEC programs join them in the top 10, the Arkansas women’s track team remains No. 1 in the national ratings index, and second place is a whopping 73 points behind. The Hogs will host the Tyson Invitational in the Randal Tyson Track Center while a crew of distance runners will compete at Boston University on Friday.

🔺 Kings On The Prowl. The Arkansas men’s track team used this past weekend’s New Mexico Collegiate Classic to move up to No. 3 in this week’s ratings. Texas Tech (149) remains No. 1 followed by Northern Arizona (126) at No. 2 with Arkansas (117) now No. 3.

The Razorback 4 x 400m relay remains in the No. 2 position with a 3:04.27 behind Florida’s 3:04.08 from their showdown at the Razorback Invitational. Arkansas still maintains four heptathletes among the top 16 with Jack Turner now ranking third with his 6,000-point score followed by Yariel Soto Torrado (7th), Marcus Weaver (10th), and Daniel Spejcher (15th).
