Razorback Brew 2/27: Up in arms
Today, two Razorback pitchers get their due respect.
Good Morning. We’re still not over all the Razorback action from this weekend. Let’s continue idolizing the weekend it was, and look ahead at what’s happening today.
Here’s what we have in store for today’s Brew:
🎥 Face-to-Face with Khalif Battle
⚾️ Pristine pitching
🐗 And so much more!
🎥 KHALIF BATTLE’S MENTALITY
Arkansas graduate senior Khalif Battle has always been in attack mode. Growing up in New Jersey amid many talented guards, Khalif knew he had to put the extra work in to stand out. That mindset continues to help as a Razorback, and was clearly evident from his 42-point outing this past Saturday against Missouri.
Learn more about Khalif as he sits down with host Bo Mattingly in this episode of the Hog Pod.

🔺 Up In Arms. Arkansas pitchers Hagen Smith and Colin Fisher have been named SEC Pitcher of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week, respectively, after their strong performances on the mound this past weekend.
Hagen tied a single-game program record with 17 strikeouts to lead the Hogs to a memorable 5-4 win over No. 7 Oregon State on Friday. It took him only 18 outs and 78 pitches, including 59 strikes, to tie the Razorbacks’ single-game strikeout record, which had stood for nearly 17 years. It’s now a Globe Life Field single-game record as well.
Colin, meanwhile, made his first two collegiate pitching appearances last week and was superb, racking up 10 strikeouts and not allowing an earned run over 7.1 innings of work on the mound. Making his debut in a start against James Madison on Feb. 19, he twirled five shutout innings with four strikeouts to earn his first collegiate win.
The Diamond Hogs are back in Baum-Walker Stadium this afternoon to begin a 12-game homestead. First pitch against Grambling is at 3pm on SEC Network Plus.
🔺 The Clear Choice. The SEC Player of the Week for men’s basketball belongs to Arkansas’ Khalif Battle following the graduate senior’s career-high 42-point performance on Saturday against Missouri. Khalif also put up 15 points in the Hogs’ win at Texas A&M earlier in the week, giving him an average of 28.5 for the two contests. Catch him and the Razorbacks tonight against Vanderbilt from Bud Walton Arena at 8pm on SEC Network.
🔺 Back & Better. The 16th-ranked Gymbacks were back in Barnhill Arena on Friday after a month away, and they made the most out of the home crowd energy. Arkansas took down sixth-ranked Kentucky 197.400-197.150 at Barnhill Arena. The victory was Arkansas’ highest-ranked and first in a regular season over Kentucky since 2016 and marked the fifth 197+ score so far for Razorbacks, which matches a single season record set in 2021. Arkansas outscored the Wildcats on every event but beam and set a new program record of 49.675 on floor, upending the previous high of 49.575 earned in 2015. Four Gymbacks got at least a share of an event title: Cami Weaver and Lauren Williams on vault (9.925), Maddie Jones on bars (9.950) and Frankie Price on floor (9.975). Check out the meet highlights here.
🔺 Inside The Lines. The 63rd-ranked Arkansas women’s tennis team won their fourth straight match after a 4-2 victory over Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center. The Hogs continued their doubles dominance, with Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell earning a win and Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel coming through later to clinch the point. In singles, No. 88 Carolina Gomez Alonso cruised to a straight-set ranked win, her first this spring and fourth overall this year.
🔺 Mixin’ It Up. Known by Arkansas fans as the resident DJ at Razorback sporting events — DJ Derrick has been hyping up Hog fans for over a decade. He doesn’t constrict his talents to just Arkansas sporting events. Derrick Dansby aka DJ Derrick, has spun at events across the realm of sports: SEC Championships, SEC Tournaments, MLB events, basketball, football, softball, baseball, gymnastics, track & field, you name it, DJ Derrick has been there doing what he does best.
How did he get the gig and how does he go about keeping sports fans hyped up at games with his signature mixes? Bo Mattingly sits down with DJ Derrick to get his story on the latest episode of the Hog Pod.
