Razorback Brew 2/22: Future memories

Today, we're setting our calendars for an exciting football season.

Good Morning. Presidents’ Day may’ve been Monday, but the OG wasn’t born until this day 292 years ago. Happy Birthday George Washington. He’d be pleased to know 88 cities in this country are named after him, as well as a state and a district! But he knew about the latter.

Now, what else is in store for today’s Brew?

🥎 MEET THE NEWCOMERS

Quirks, talents, and so much more. Plenty of new faces will play their first game in Bogle Park this afternoon for the Razorback softball team.

Learn all about Arkansas’ newest players in this special episode of My Time.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Stationed For Success. The Arkansas women’s basketball team is primed for an important SEC matchup in College Station against Texas A&M this evening. Both teams stand around the middle of the SEC standings with the Razorbacks at 6-6 in league play, and the Aggies at 5-7. The Hogs’ latest win over Missouri clinched six straight years with at least six SEC wins in the Mike Neighbors era, something that has never been done in Arkansas women’s basketball history. A win tonight would be their first road conference victory of the season.

Tonight’s game from Reed Arena will tipoff at 7pm on SEC Network Plus.

🔺 Extended Stay. After two weekends on the road, the 14th-ranked Arkansas softball team returns to the friendly confines of Bogle Park for its home opener this afternoon vs. Illinois State at 4pm. The Razorbacks’ clash against the Redbird is the first of six this weekend in the Razorback Invitational, and the first of 17 straight in Bogle through March 10. Click here for a rundown of last weekend’s action.

🔺 Sooner State Splendor. While the Arkansas men’s tennis team was sweeping Oral Roberts 7-0 Wednesday afternoon, Connor Smillie was also named SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Going 3-0 in his matches last week earned him his first weekly honor this season. Connor and the Hogs returned to the courts a few hours later to take down Tulsa, 4-1, and it was his three-set victory that clinched the win for Arkansas.

🔺 Back With A Legacy. Taylor Washington has returned to the Razorback women’s track and field program in the role of director of operations for Arkansas women’s head coach Chris Johnson. A 2016 Olympic gold medalist and 11-time All-American with the Razorback program, Washington was an integral part of the first pair of national championships the Razorbacks claimed indoors in 2015 and outdoors in 2016 while serving as team captain. The pair of NCAA team titles represented the first ever women’s national championship teams in Arkansas history.

🔺 Future Memories. Important dates for the Arkansas football team have been set for the 2024 season. Click here to learn more about the following:

  • March 7: The first of Arkansas’ 14 spring practices.

  • April 13: Annual spring game inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
