Razorback Brew 2/15: Dean of the Hogs

Today, we honor one of the greatest Razorbacks of all time.

Good Morning. A career milestone was achieved yesterday by an Arkansas coach, while another is taking on a greater role with his team. And did we mention Arkansas plays baseball tomorrow? We’ll hear from the coach of the Diamond Hogs as well.

Now, what else is in store for today’s Brew?

🎥 Introducing Keyshawn Blackstock
🎾 Mr. 300
🐗 And so much more!

🏈 MEET KEYSHAWN BLACKSTOCK

Fate had a plan for Keyshawn Blackstock. A basketball player growing up, he made the switch to football as a high school sophomore. The switch was wise as he was recruited by none other than Sam Pittman when the Head Hog was previously at Georgia. After taking the JUCO route for two years and spending 2023 with Michigan State, Keyshawn is finally going to be an o-lineman for Coach Pittman.

This episode of “In Studio with Tera” features Tera Talmadge getting to know Arkansas' new offensive lineman, Keyshawn Blackstock. We'll learn about his time at Michigan State, and why he wanted to become a Razorback

All episodes of “In Studio with Tera” are now available on HogsPlus.com, featuring the newest Arkansas football players:

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 The Dean of Arkansas football. Former longtime Razorback athletic trainer Dean Weber passed away Tuesday at the age of 78, but his impact on the Hogs is forever. Only Frank Broyles and Norm DeBriyn have accrued more years of service at UA. Hear Weber’s story in this re-released episode of the Hog Pod.

Arkansas has also announced there were be a celebration of life for Weber on April 13 at 4pm inside Bud Walton Arena. The celebration coincides with the A Club Spring Reunion scheduled for that weekend. Weber’s family requests memorial tributes be made to the Dean Weber Endowed Athletic Training Scholarship Fund within the UA College of Education and Health Professions. 🔺 Here’s the Windup. Arkansas baseball skipper Dave Van Horn is excited about his trio of starting pitchers, so much so that he’s sharing what the rotation will be in this weekend’s opening series! Hear the order of pitchers DVH is deploying this weekend, where Peyton Holt is set to field, and more in previewing the Diamond Hogs’ opening series against James Madison.

🔺 Promote From Within. Entering his fourth season with Arkansas volleyball coaching staff, Jordan Neal has been elevated in his role as a second assistant. Jordan will serve as a full-time assistant for Arkansas in his new role, a promotion from his position as third assistant during the 2023 slate. He will primarily oversee recruiting efforts and Arkansas’ serve/pass strategy. Since 2021, Neal has helped coach four players to seven All-SEC honors, five to eight All-Region honors, and to Arkansas’ first two outright All-American honors in 25 years with Jill Gillen and Taylor Head in 2023.

🔺 Their Next Test. Five former Razorbacks received invites to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, IN—a crucial step in the NFL Draft process. Offensive linemen Beaux Limmer and Brady Latham, defensive lineman Trajan Jeffcoat, defensive back Dwight McGlothern and kicker Cam Little will all be in Indy to put their athleticism to the test beginning Feb. 26.

🔺 Not 100, Not 200... Arkansas men’s tennis head coach Jay Udwadia earned his 300th career victory as the Razorbacks took down Drake on Wednesday evening at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Hogs took the early 1-0 advantage with another doubles sweep. Jared Horwood and Melvin Manuel teamed up to earn a dominant 6-1 win on court one, while Connor Smillie and Jake Sweeney improved to 4-0 as a tandem this season, claiming a 7-5 victory to secure the doubles point for Arkansas. The Hogs only conceded one point from the match in singles play, but Stefanos Savva, Alan Sau Franco, and Melvin Manuel all got wins to clinch the match.
