Razorback Brew 2/12: Simply peachy

Arkansas men's basketball got its revenge over the weekend.

Good Morning. You know it was a great weekend when a victory in Bud Walton Arena was just one of the highlights for Arkansas. We called those Hogs on many playing surfaces over the past few days, and we’re only getting started.

Now, what else is in store for today’s Brew?

🎙️ HOG POD: MATT HOBBS

Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs was almost one hour deep in a detailed break down of personnel when there was a mention of the 2023 baseball season’s early finish.

After winning their third SEC overall crown under head coach Dave Van Horn, the Razorbacks did not make it out of their own regional. Never mind that they were 43-18 overall and 20-10 in SEC play, they did not play well in that last weekend.

The co-defending SEC champs are hungry for the ultimate prize.

Hogs+ senior contributor Clay Henry gets you ready for Razorback baseball—sitting down with pitching coach Matt Hobbs to break down this year's pitching staff and what to expect from the Diamond Hogs this season. And click here to read Clay’s article in which he dissects the interview in-depth.

🎤 COURTSIDE WITH MUSS

Head Coach Eric Musselman and host Chuck Barrett break down the Hogs’ hard-fought win over the Georgia Bulldogs from Bud Walton Arena. Also, Bo Mattingly sits down with Ronnie Brewer as he talks about life on the coaching side in this episode of the Hog Pod.

🏈 MEET ADDISON NICHOLS

Addison Nichols’ plan wasn’t to play offensive line. He first put on pads in middle school, and once he entered the trenches, he never left. A golfer first as well as a second degree blackbelt in taekwondo, Addison has a case for being the most interesting new addition to the Razorbacks.

This episode of “In Studio with Tera” features Tera Talmadge getting to know Addison Nichols, a transfer offensive lineman from Tennessee. We'll learn about his upbringing, his time with the Volunteers, and his many talents.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Simply Peachy. Exactly a month after the opposite occurred, Arkansas men’s basketball defeated Georgia Saturday night in Bud Walton Arena. Four of Makhi Mitchell’s 14 points on the evening came in the last 54 seconds, and the Razorbacks held on to 78-75 victory.

Makhi (14), Keyon Menifield Jr. (15), and Jalen Graham (11) helped Arkansas topple Georgia 44-20 in bench scoring, and El Ellis led all starters with 15. El put up 10 of his 15 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with 1:42 left

The Razorbacks stay at home to host No. 6 Tennessee on Wednesday with tipoff set for 8pm on ESPN2.

🔺 Fast & Far. The Tyson Invitational featured great highs for Razorback track and field. Rachel Glenn broke the 11-year old Arkansas record in her high jump victory, and sprinter Jordan Anthony posted the second fastest 60m in Arkansas history. Out in Boston, Ugandan distance runner Peter Maru posted an Arkansas record of his own in the 5,000m in his Razorback debut at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

🔺 Four On The Board. Following Thursday’s opening day sweep, the 12th-ranked Arkansas softball team finished the Paradise Classic with four wins thanks to victories over Ohio and Michigan State. On Friday, the Hogs got nearly seven innings out of Morgan Leinstock in her Arkansas debut on the mound, leading the charge to a 7-3 win. On Saturday, Arkansas used Hannah Gammil’s fifth-inning homer and three RBIs to fend off Michigan State, 6-5. The Razorbacks will take their 4-1 start to the Bear Down Classic this weekend in Tucson, AZ

🔺 Tropic Tees. The spring opener for the Arkansas men’s golf team is underway at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico. The Hogs closed Sunday’s round strong and in sit in second place at -7 with two golfers in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard. John Driscoll III is the low Razorback at -3 and is tied for sixth, while Matthis Lefevre is one behind at -2 in a tie for ninth. Jacob Skov Olesen and John Daly II are each at -1 and tied for 14th.

🔺 One ’ville to Another. The Arkansas women’s basketball team remains on the road tonight as the Hogs will face the Tennessee Lady Vols in Knoxville. A win for the Razorbacks would get Mike Neighbors’ team back over .500 in SEC play. The game will be Tennessee’s Pink Game, and Arkansas will unveil new pink threads for the occasion.

Tip-off is on SEC Network tonight at 6pm.
