Razorback Brew 1/25: Red over blue

Today, the first of two Arkansas-Kentucky games this week at Bud Walton tips off.

Good Morning. The next two basketball games at Bud Walton Arena feature the same visiting school. We’ve got the gals on tap tonight as Arkansas looks for vengeance against an SEC foe.

Now, what else is in store for today’s Brew?

🎥 STORIES OF FRANK AND DRE

Two former Hogs will clash Sunday afternoon in California. As the publisher at Hawgs Illustrated, Hogs+ senior contributor Clay Henry got to know both Frank Ragnow and Dre Greenlaw in a special way. He can confirm that not only are they true stars on the football field, but just as wonderful off the field. Clay’s latest article dives into what makes both players worth watching the trenches when the game is on.

🎥 PLAY OF A LIFETIME

Sensational. Amazing. Mind-boggling. This is the story, behind the untold story, of one of the most exciting plays in Razorback history. Ten years after Michael Qualls beat the buzzer with a rim-rattling dunk to defeat Kentucky, “Walk on Air” – the latest short film from Hogs+ – re-lives this iconic moment and all that transpired afterward. The film features original interviews with Qualls plus Mike Anderson, Jimmy Dykes, Kikko Haydar, Matt Zimmerman, and Rod Winkler.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 We Back Pat. The Arkansas women’s basketball team is back in Bud Walton Arena tonight for the first time in two weeks to host Kentucky. It’s been exactly three weeks since the two teams squared off in the SEC opener, and Arkansas is looking for revenge at home.

Tipoff is set at 7pm on SEC Network Plus. The game will serve as the We Back Pat game, which supports a weeklong initiative by the SEC to bring awareness in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

🔺 Watch & Learn. Arkansas softball’s Nia Carter, Rylin Hedgecock and Reagan Johnson were tabbed to USA Softball’s Preseason Top 50 Collegiate Player of the Year watch list on Wednesday. The trio represented the best Arkansas had to offer at the plate during the 2023 campaign, and they’ll look to become top 25 finalists for the prestigious honor later on during the season.

🔺 Recognition for Rylin didn’t stop there as the redshirt senior was also named Preseason All-SEC by the league’s coaches. The Razorbacks as a team were picked to finish fourth in the SEC this season, and were one of five programs in the conference to earn over 100 points in the voting.

🔺 Renegade Man. Former Arkansas wide receiver Matt Landers will continue his professional football career in the United Football League, the newly formed spring league that merged the USFL and XFL. Landers was one of 20 players to sign a contract with the league earlier this week and will join the Arlington Renegades. He spent just one year in Fayetteville in 2022, but it was his most productive collegiate season as he posted 901 yards and eight touchdowns. He also spent time on the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers during the 2023 NFL season.

🔺 Human Highlight Reel. Fan favorite & SportsCenter top 10 regular Michael Qualls joined the latest episode of the Hog Pod to tell his story, reflect on his favorite memories as a Razorback, and update us on where he's at now. All while celebrating the 10th anniversary of his career-defining buzzer-beating dunk against Kentucky.
