🔺 Offensive Output. Arkansas men’s basketball took care of business by defeating Abilene Christian, 83-73, in Bud Walton Arena on the strength of Tramon Mark’s first career double-double. Tramon put up 25 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the Razorbacks’ eighth win of the young season. Khalif Battle added 18 points and Chandler Lawson grabbed 10 rebounds in the winning effort.
Abilene Christian led by as many as nine after a strong start to start the second half. From that point, Arkansas went on a 19-8 run. Included in the run was a 10-0 spurt that saw Keyon Menifield Jr. give Arkansas its first lead of the half at 44-43, and Khalif followed with a 3-pointer. The Wildcats tied the game at 47 apiece before the Razorbacks went on an 8-0 run and never looked back. Arkansas will close its non-conference portion of the schedule on Dec. 30 against UNC Wilmington. Tipoff is set for 4pm and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
🔺 One Of A Kind. Arkansas’ Bea Franklin added Division 1 Academic All-America Team Member of the Year to her impressive list of 2023 accolades. With a 4.00 GPA as a finance major, Bea was also named the 2023 SEC Midfielder and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American after leading the Razorbacks in goals (9), assists (9) and points (27) and the SEC in assists and points for the 2023 season. She started in all 22 matches and led Arkansas to its fourth SEC regular season title, eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh SEC Tournament Finals appearance.
🔺 Snuffed The Flames. After back-to-back morning tip-offs, the Razorback women’s basketball team leaves the West Palm Beach Classic with a 2-0 record. Arkansas took down UIC, 66-58, to improve its record to 11-3 on the year. The Hogs led for over 35 minutes and used an 11-0 run in the first quarter going into the second, as well as a 7-0 run in the fourth to sail to victory over the Flames.
Taliah Scott led the Hogs with 26 points and Saylor Poffenbarger came up with big plays, as she finished with a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Arkansas' defense held it down in Florida the last two days as the Hogs allowed just four 3-pointers made on 34 attempts despite both Illinois and UIC each shooting over 30% from beyond the arc entering the week.
