🏐 BUILDING A POWERHOUSE

Blood, sweat, and tears. Graduate outside hitter Jill Gillen didn’t have to mince her words—she only spoke facts on how the Volley Hogs got here.

Hogs+ presents an in-depth and behind-the-scenes look at how head coach Jason Watson has taken the Arkansas volleyball program from afterthought to NCAA contender in just a few years. It's a story told by those who know it best: Coach Watson, Jill, Maggie Cartwright, Hannah Hogue, and Hunter Yurachek.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 ’Nole Knockdown. The Arkansas women’s basketball team improved to 7-1 on the season by upsetting No. 15 Florida State, 71-58, in the inaugural SEC/ACC Challenge. Playing in Tallahassee, the Hogs led the Seminoles by two at the half before outscoring the home team 24-6 in the third period and didn’t look back. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Saylor Poffenbarger broke the program single-game rebounds record with 23, surpassing Shelly Wallace’s record that was set all the way back in 1988.

  • Samara Spencer surpassed 1,000 career points as a Razorback while playing her home state, becoming the sixth Hog in the Mike Neighbors era to reach the 1,000-point club.

  • Speaking of Coach Neighbors, this was his seventh win against a top-16 team and eighth overall against a ranked team since taking over as head coach in 2017.

The Razorbacks are back in Fayetteville this Sunday for a huge game against No. 2 UCLA. Coverage from Bud Walton Arena on SEC Network Plus will begin at 2pm. If you’re going to the game, WEAR RED!

🔺 Helping & Scoring. Arkansas football’s Cam Little and Arkansas volleyball’s Zoi Evans have been named to their respective 2023 SEC Community Service Teams. Cam continued his work with the Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas and donated $50 for every field goal he sent through the uprights this season. Zoi expanded her role with the Arkansas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this year, serving as the committee’s secretary as part of the executive board while helping coordinate food and clothing drives.

🔺 In The Fight. As it is for many, fighting cancer is personal for Danyelle Musselman. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 56. So when the opportunity to work with Coaches vs. Cancer arrived, she did not hesitate to hop on board. Watch Coach Muss’ wife speak with Kris Budden during the Hogs’ win over Duke about her work with Coaches vs. Cancer during Jimmy V Week.

🔺 Around The Horn. As the temperature gets colder and colder, baseball season in Arkansas gets closer and closer on the opposite side of Winer. Manager Dave Van Horn breaks down the nature of position battles carrying over into the Spring, which positions have opportunities up for grabs, and more in his Fall Ball recap presser.

🔺 Strike A Match. Arkansas volleyball is playing postseason action in Barnhill Arena for the first time in 17 years tonight when the Volley Hogs host Stephen F. Austin. Barnhill and the third-seeded Razorbacks will host SFA, TCU, and Florida State this weekend in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

Tonight’s match begins at 7pm and can be streamed on ESPN Plus. WEAR WHITE if you’re headed to Barnhill! The advancing teams from both first round matches will play tomorrow at 7pm for a spot in regional play.
