Razorback Brew 11/3: In place for history

Today, Arkansas soccer positioned itself to do what's never been done before.

Good morning. There’s really nothing like November; so many sports all coinciding with one another. Plenty of Razorback teams are getting set for either a busy weekend, or a busy week ahead. So don’t put up that Christmas tree just yet… or if you have, maybe save some ornaments for after Thanksgiving. Just a thought!

Now, what has all been mixed into today’s Brew?

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 In Place For History. The 10th-ranked Arkansas soccer team continued its shutout ways at the SEC Tournament in defeating Mississippi State, 2-0, in the semifinals. Goals from Ava Tankersley and Morgan White in the 13th and 85th minute, respectively, and yet another shutout in goal from Phoebe Carver gave the Hogs the advantage on the scoreboard. Arkansas also finished the match ahead in shots, 17-7, and corner kicks, 8-1.

The victory advanced Arkansas, the No. 1 seed in the bracket, to its ninth-ever SEC Tournament finals appearance. The Razorbacks will face No. 2 seed Georgia for their first-ever SEC Tournament championship title on Sunday, November 5 at 1pm on SEC Network.

🔺 Long Break’s Over. Arkansas’ bye week is in the rearview mirror now as the final stretch of the season begins tomorrow in Gainesville. The Hogs will face Florida in the Swamp for the first time since 2020. The teams have only met 12 times in history, and have split the last two matchups. Be sure to check out the Wooo Pig Pregame show Saturday morning, only on HogsPlus.com!

🔺 Rollie On My Wrist. Arkansas freshman golfer Rex Hargrove was named second team 2023 Rolex Junior All-America, as selected by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). Rex made the team on the strength of his win at the Jones Cup Junior Invitational Championship last December. He won by one stroke at Sea Islands’ (Ga.) Seaside Course, which is also the home course of the SEC Championships. He added an eighth-place finish at the Mayakoba Invitational and was ranked among the AJGA top 40. The Houston native gives the current Razorback roster two players who were named Rolex Junior All-America as John Daly II was a second team selection in 2021.

🔺 Up, Down, Up. The USTA 15K Fayetteville Futures are rolling along at the Billingsley Tennis Center. Arkansas’ Gerard Planelles Ripoll defeated Texas Tech’s Olle Wallin Thursday in three sets ( 6-4, 4-6, 6-3) to advance to the quarterfinals. Gerard will play Texas A&M’s Noah Schachter today for a chance at the semis.

🔺 Familiar Faces. Razorbacks Trevon Brazile and Davonte Davis were among 16 players to make the men’s basketball coaches’ All-SEC preseason teams. Trevon made the first-team, while Devo was a second-team selection. Arkansas joined Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas A&M as the lone SEC teams with had multiple selections.
