🏈 RAZORBACK FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Written by Alyssa Riley

Coming off Saturday’s Homecoming festivities and the humbling loss to LSU (34-10), Razorbacks all around the board are looking forward to a fresh week of SEC football. This week’s game will pit Arkansas (4-3) against Mississippi State (1-6) at 11:45 Saturday morning in Starkville, Mississippi.

The Bulldogs, ranked 16th in the SEC, have not won a game since week one of this season when they defeated Eastern Kentucky 56-7. With six straight losses, zero SEC wins, and a last-place conference ranking in total defense, scoring defense, and most defensive categories, the Razorbacks are itching for a sweeping victory on Saturday.

However, Arkansas football will likely have a kink in its armor this weekend. Coach Pittman expects running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, who is battling an ankle injury, to be listed “doubtful” for the Razorback’s eighth game. Braylen Russell will have the opportunity to step in and fill Jackson’s shoes if he’s out. He won’t be alone, though. MSU quarterback Blake Shapen will be keeping the sidelines warm due to a shoulder injury.

What we can expect to see for certain is Taylen Green and Mississippi State replacement quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. trying to outmaneuver each other’s defenses. Also on the offensive, we will have wide receivers Andrew Armstrong and MSU’s Kevin Coleman Jr. racing for the forward passes. Coleman better watch out; Armstrong has made himself known as Green’s go-to target, leading Arkansas in receptions (45) –ranked second in the SEC – and receiving yards (646) – ranked third. Let’s see what this Saturday has in store, and let’s hope it’s a comeback for the Hogs.
