Razorback Brew 4/18: Riding that high

Today, Jace Bohrofen is setting the standard at the plate.

Good morning. Yes, even to you, Uncle Sam. It is your day after all. But while you’re here, start the day with something a little less taxing than, well, taxes.

Arkansas softball star Chenise Delce got the call last night as she was selected ninth overall in the 2023 Women’s Professional Fastpitch Draft by the Oklahoma City Spark. A native of OKC, Chenise will have the opportunity to sign once her collegiate eligibility is completed following this season. Congrats to one of Arkansas’ finest!

Now, what's all been mixed in today's Brew?

🔺 No. 8 The Great. Arkansas’ 32-game home run streak was helped kept alive by outfielder and captain Jace Bohrofen, who had a sensational week for the Razorbacks. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named him their National Player of the Week, and it’s easy to see why. Jace averaged .375 and slugged 1.188 at the plate, belting four home runs and nine RBI during the five-game stretch. He led all SEC hitters in home runs during the week, second in RBI, and also showed off his speed by stealing two bases.

Jace and the Diamond Hogs, who reached as high as No. 4 in the most recent polls, are back in action this afternoon with a midweek in-state matchup against Central Arkansas. Listen to Hogs+ senior contributor Clay Henry’s conversation with Zach Barr, director of video and scouting for Arkansas baseball, to get his insight on the program they are building this year.

🔺 Riding The High. It’s always nice to be playing your best late in the season. Arkansas men’s golf is doing exactly that as the SEC Championships are just a day away. The week-long tourney will be played in St. Simons Island, GA for the 22nd straight year, with the Sea Side Course playing host for the 13th year running. Arkansas last won the SEC title in 2019, when Julian Perico was just a freshman. Four years later, Julian and Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira headline the squad of Hogs set to bring the title back to Fayetteville.

🔺 First-Time Foe. Arkansas softball’s final matchup of their four-game homestand today will be their first-ever game against Texas A&M Commerce. The are in the midst of their first season in Division I and will look face an Arkansas team that is 15-2 in Bogle Park vs. non-conference opponents.

🔺 Hannah Gammill knows she’s fortunate. Hailing from the small town of McRae, Arkansas—near Beebe—and a lifelong Razorback fan, she wasn’t afraid to dream big. As her family supported her dreams, Hannah turned into a great player, one that caught the attention of Razorback head coach Courtney Deifel, who’s become a big part of her on-and off-field success. Through an internship with a domestic violence shelter, the All-American is well on her way to leaving a lasting legacy on the Razorback softball program.
